Matthew 21:15-16
CRAFT:
Have the children sit in a circle on
the floor.
Let’s make some big listening ears!
Use “Mr. Ryan’s ears” – pictured here or something else to make big ears on a stick or
headband. OR have them already made and pull them out of your “magic
bag” for each child.
I see many listening ears today.
________, can you hear with your ears?
Pull out a mirror for them to examine
their “ears”
SING:
My Best Friend is Jesus (Tune:
Mary had a little lamb)
My best friend is Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.
My best friend is Jesus.
Jesus loves me so (hug self)
(clap hands on Jesus)
PRAY:
Let’s pray to God today. He always
listens to us. Dear God, thank you for listening to us. Thank you for
our friend Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Ask several other children
to also pray,
MEMORY VERSE:
When you prayed, did you God heard you?
The Bible tells us that God hears us
when we pray to Him. The Bible says, “He hears us.” Can you say
those words with me? Say them louder.
Give each one a Bible (or share) &
ask each to say “He hears us.” 1 John 5:14
LESSON:
(Open your Bible.) Jesus smiled
and remembered when the children sang to Him in the streets of
Jerusalem.
(Hold a picture of Jesus) Hosanna!
Hosanna!
Hosanna means that we are praising
Jesus. Hosanna! Hosanna! The children followed their friend Jesus
into the temple/church.
(Hold a picture of Jesus) Hosanna!
Hosanna!
Many of the people who loved Jesus
liked to hear the children sing.
(Hold a picture of Jesus) Hosanna!
Hosanna!
They knew Jesus was God’s Son. Jesus
smiled as the children praised Him.
(Hold a picture of Jesus) Hosanna!
Hosanna! Jesus is God’s Son.
Not everyone, however, was smiling.
Some men in the temple/church did not like Jesus. They did not like
what the children were saying and singing.
(Hold a picture of Jesus) Hosanna!
Hosanna! Jesus is God’s Son.
Jesus looked at the angry men and said,
“God wants these children to praise Me.”
(Hold a picture of Jesus) Hosanna!
Hosanna!
Jesus looked at the children and
listened to their words.
(Hold a picture of Jesus) Hosanna!
Hosanna! Jesus is God’s Son.
Jesus liked to hear His friends praise
Him.
(Hold a picture of Jesus) Hosanna!
Hosanna!
APPLY:
What were the children doing for Jesus?
(let the kids respond – Praising Him!)
Who liked to hear the children praise
Him? (Jesus)
Can you praise Jesus? How can you
praise Jesus? (give ideas including singing)
Let’s praise Jesus by singing…
SING:
My Best Friend is Jesus (Tune:
Mary had a little lamb)
My best friend is Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.
My best friend is Jesus.
Jesus loves me so (hug self)
(clap hands on Jesus)
Jesus is the Son of God (Tune:
London Bridge)
Jesus is the Son of God, Son of God,
Son of God
Jesus is the Son of God, He loves me.
Jesus loves me
Jesus loves me this I know
For the Bible tells me so
Little ones to Him belong
They are weak but He is strong
Yes, Jesus loves me. (3x)
The Bible tells me so.
CONTINUED SINGING GAME:
Do you remember that the children in
the Bible story today praised Jesus? Let’s continue to sing with
our mouths. (sing a song) Let’s singing it very softly. (sing it
quietly) Let’s sing it LOUD! (sing it loud) Let’s sing it LOUDER!
(sing it louder)
Jesus heard a happy sound when He went
into the temple/church. Do you know what the sound was? Children were
praising Him! Do you think He’s happy when He hears you singing to
Him? (yes)
GAME:
Before class, make a hopscotch court
with masking tape – one block, two blocks, one block and end with
two blocks. Have the kids say the memory verse as they hop, jump,
turn around and hop back. Set chairs along the hopscotch “court”
for other children to watch, wait and help with the verse.
GOD – HEARS – US
You are all waiting so quietly. I like
it when you take turns. Jesus liked to hear children praise Him. I
know He likes to hear you say His words from the Bible too.
NEED:
Big ears on a stick for each child
“Magic bag”
Mirror
Bible
Picture of Jesus – visual aid
Masking tape
