GOD MADE THE WORLD

by Kimber Bailey Scott
Genesis 1:1-19

SING:

Creation Song
(Tune: London Bridge)

God created the heavens and earth
Heavens and earth
Heavens and earth
God created the heavens and earth
In the Beginning

God created day and night
Day and night
Day and night
God created day and night
On day one

God created the skies and seas
Skies and seas
Skies and seas
God created the skies and seas
On day two

God created the plants and trees
Plants and trees
Plants and trees
God created the plants and trees
On day three

God created the stars and moon
Stars and moon
Stars and moon
God created the stars and moon
On day four

God created the fish and birds
Fish and birds
Fish and birds
God created the fish and birds
On day five

God created animals and man
Animals and man
Animals and man
God created animals and man
On day six

God rested from His works
From His works
From His works
God rested from His works
On day seven

Days of Creation
(Tune: This Old Man)

On day one God made light
Made the difference in day and night
God just spoke the words and it came true
Wonder what else God will do?

On day two Split in two
Skies above the water blue
God just spoke the words and it came to be
What will happen on day three?

On day three God made land
Then he put plants in the sand
God made herbs and grass and fruit on the tree
This was all done on day three

On day four God made lights
Some for days and some for nights
Stars are dim, but the sun and the moon are bright
Aren't you glad that God made lights

On day five God made alive
Fish for the waters and birds for the skies
All the things that swim and birds to fly
These were made on day five

On day six God did fix
Animals, mankind and even ticks
God made lizards, cats, and other things that lick
Animals were created on day six

On day seven God in heaven
Rested from all the work he'd done
He'd made the earth, the stars, the moon, and sun
It was good what God had done

He’s got the Whole World in His Hands
He's got the whole world in His hands (repeat 4x)
He's got the wind and the rain in his hands (repeat 3x)
He's got the sun and the moon . . .
He's got the little bitty baby . . .
He's got you and me brother . . .
He's got everybody here . . .

God is Great
(Tune: London Bridge)

God made all the stars above*, stars above, stars above,
God made all the stars above. God is great!
(*lands and seas, fish and whales, dogs and cats)

God made you and you and me, you and me, you and me.
God made you and you and me. God is great!

LESSON:
Pull some different nature items (leaves, flowers, pinecones, plant, etc.) out of your magic bag one at a time. Show one at a time and ask, Who made this? Yes, God did. The Bible tells us that “God made the world.” The Bible also tells us what God thought about the world He made. Do you know what God said about His world? God said, “This is good.”

Before God began to make the world, there was nothing. No sky, no sun, no trees. There ws only darkness. (point to the black bulletin board)

What was the first thing that God made? God made the light. God said “Let there be light’ (cover the black paper with your pre-cut white piece)

So God made day and night. Then God said “This is good.” What did God say about the day and night? (Lead children to say in unison, “This is good.”)

Next, God made the sky. (place or have a kid place the cloud border on the board) God looked at what He had made and said “This is good.” What did God say about the sky? (Lead children to say in unison, “This is good.”)

Next, God made the land and the water. He made the mountains and the fields. He made the rivers, lakes and oceans. (place appropriate borders when mentioned) God looked at what He had made and said “This is good.” What did God say about the water and the land? (Lead children to say in unison, “This is good.”)

Next, God made plants to grow on the land. He made flowers, grass, trees and jungles. (place borders) What did God say about the plants He had made? (Lead children to say in unison, “This is good.”)

Next God made lights for the day and night. He made the sun for the day. (place sun in the day section) He made the moon and the stars for night. (place moon and stars in night section) What did God say about the sun, moon and stars? (Lead children to say in unison, “This is good.”)

Only our great God could make the world. God made a beautiful world. And God saw that His world was good! God is great.
APPLY:

(point to the board) Where is the sky that God made? Where is the land that God made?
__(name)__, name one thing God made. (when he/she answers, use it in the following verse…)
God made the __________. God made the __________.
God made a wonderful world for me.
(ask each child to name one item from the board. Adjust the verse to include that item)

We are thankful for the world God made. Thank You, God, for making the world.

MEMORY VERSE:

Did God make the world? Did He make clouds? Did He make the mountains? Did God make the ocean? Yes!

The Bible tells us that God made the world. The Bible says, “God…made the world.” Can you say those words with me? Say them louder. Say them softer.

Give each one a Bible (or share) & ask each to say, “God…made the world.” Acts 17:24

SNACK:

Prepare some of the food for a snack. Prepare some food for examination. If possible, provide the food with leaves attached, such as a carrot with the green top still attached, or tomatoes on the vine, grapes on a stem, etc.

Show the children the food. God made the world. He made the earth, the sun, the stars and the plants. He made plants that give us food. Gook at the leaves on these foods. These foods grow on the plants that God made. Let’s name these foods. Do you eat apples? Thank You, God, for apples. Thank You, God, for plants that give us food.

Allow children to handle and examine the foods and the leaves attached to them. Point out how each leaf is different and how each food is different. Before children eat their snacks, pray “Thank You, God, for making plants that give us good.” As the children eat the snack, continue to talk about how God made food plants. God made plants that grow food. We can thank God for our food. Thank You, God, for carrots, strawberries, and green beans.

GAME:

Card matching game
Prep: copy 2 sets of the border patterns (excluding the animals and people). Cut them out and mount them on cardboard or cardstock to make matching cards.

In class, turn one set of pictures face up on the floor. Show one card from the second set. Ask children to name the item and then find the matching item among the pictures on the floor. When the match is located, have children stand and imitate that item. For the tree, children can stand and stretch out their arms. As children imitate the item, lead them to say the Bible words, “God made the world.” Also lead children to pray/say, “Thank You, God, for trees.”
